It has been demonstrated that sufficient oxygen supply plays a central role in wound healing. In contrast, sustained oxygen deficit has a detrimental impact on wound healing, especially for patients with chronic wounds. Recent technological advances have miniaturized oxygen delivery systems, with novel topical oxygen therapy allowing patients to receive oxygen therapy 24 hours a day while remaining mobile. This session will examine the science of continuous topical oxygen on wound healing outcomes and the available therapeutic topical oxygen-delivering approaches and their impact on wound healing.
Learning Objectives:
understand the MOA of topical oxygen therapy
describe the utility of topical oxygen therapy to treat chronic wounds
explain latest data on the effectiveness of topical oxygen therapy
