Ms. Cheatle specializes in the area of medical malpractice defense. She was drawn to this legal specialty early on in her career, having grown up in a family of doctors and nurses. She saw first-hand the uniquely high moral character of medical professionals, and their steadfast readiness to help their patients even when it meant personal sacrifice. She knew their passion for their profession, and after working on her first medical malpractice defense case as a young lawyer, knew her passion was to zealously advocate for these individuals and their institutions.
Ms. Cheatle graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 2009, where she successfully completed The Litigation Skills Program of Concentrated Study. Since that time, she has gone on to defend hundreds of medical providers and institutions in medical negligence cases involving all types of medical specialties. She has defended her clients from from the day of an incident and advising them on the preparation of notes and incident reports, all the way through trial and appeal to the highest level courts. She is nationally known in her field for her single-handed efforts in procuring an amicus brief by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists in a birth trauma case, which ultimately lead to the successful exclusion by the court of an unfounded and non-peer reviewed expert opinion on birth trauma. Her briefing and arguments are relied upon by attorneys and courts across the court to this day who seek to also exclude this unfounded theory.
In additional to medical negligence, Ms. Cheatle also represents both providers and institutions in health and human services licensing investigations, in response to criminal and juvenile subpoenas, and in a variety of other matters. She is admitted to practice in both the state and federal courts of Nebraska, the 8th circuit court of appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
