Soft tissue injury management can present interesting challenges to those specialists treating such injuries. The traditional reconstructive ladder offers a number of traditional solution sets, yet a number of advancements have entered the picture and offer solutions outside of the traditional measures often considered. External tissue expansion is a technique that has had a long history of application to soft tissue injury management but how does this technique actually work and for what wounds can it be effectively implemented. This presentation will cover various soft tissue injuries managed throughout the body and from varying mechanisms to provide a case-based discussion on wounds where application of an external tissue expander may be considered or utilized.
