Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has shown promise in salvaging flaps in tissue that has been irradiated or in areas where there is diminished tissue perfusion or hypoxia. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can potentially increase tissue viability, thus decreasing the need for repeat procedures. This session will review the indications, contraindications, and techniques involved in using hyperbaric oxygen therapy for skin grafts and flaps.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the mechanism of action of hyperbaric oxygen
Understand the impact of hyperbaric oxygen on flap and graft failure
