Professor Pearson was the first Chair of the United Kingdom Children Cancer Study Group (UKCCSG) Neuroblastoma Group, Chair of the European Neuroblastomas Group (ENSG) and created and was the founding chair of International Society of Paediatric Oncology Europe Neuroblastoma Group (SIOPEN) (1998 - 2001). He and Professor Sue Cohn of Chicago created and chair the International Neuroblastoma Risk Group (INRG) Consortium. He was President of Advances in Neuroblastoma Research Association (2012 - 2014) and was awarded a Life Time Achievement Award in 2016. He was UKCCSG Chairman from 2003 - 2006. Professor Pearson was Chief Investigator of ENSG 5 which changed therapy of high-risk neuroblastoma in Europe. He was the Chief Investigator of the BEACON Trial; the first randomized European study for refractory/relapsed neuroblastoma.
He authored the first international guidelines for the conduct of Phase I trials in children with cancer and led the first paediatric phase I study in the UK. He was Chair of National Cancer Research Institute Children’s Cancer Clinical Studies Group Novel Agents Subgroup and a member of New Agents Committee of Cancer Research UK. He is a member of the Executive of the ITCC consortium and Senior Clinical Advisor, Chair of the Paediatric Strategy Forum Oversight Committee of ACCELERATE .
He is Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of Solving Kids Cancer (UK), Member of the Programmed Committee of Fight Kids Cancer, Trustee of Neuroblastoma UK and a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Neuroblastoma Australia.
He has published over 390 manuscripts.
