C13 - Better Data Makes for Better Decisions: In Situ IV Curve Tracers Improve Diagnostics & Forecasting

Solar performance analysis and models can only be as good as the data used. In order to dive deeper into factors contributing to solar field performance, Morgan Solar uses in-situ IoT IV curve tracers to take the 'pulse' of modules across a solar field multiple times an hour. The IV-DAQ is a cable free device, powered by the solar panel it is attached to, that provides continuous monitoring. Combining these IV curve measurements with data from other sensors and a machine-learning platform, we extract deep insights into the performance of panels, strings and solar farms. The IV-DAQ Analytics Portal enables easy exploration and analysis of the data, demonstrated by 3 case studies involving operating vs measured power analysis, soiling analysis and validation of bifacial contribution. The IV DAQ system generates a rich dataset of measurements taken in all conditions that feeds a powerful digital twin to gain insights into loss factors, O&M decisions and inform site performance models and forecasts.
