The number of announced retired fossil plants, specifically coal, is estimated to be more than 500 facilities. These properties represent an opportunity for the owner to repurpose the site for solar generation, battery storage or both. While each site is unique, there are common factors that may exist that would enhance the value proposition of locating renewable energy assets on these old fossil sites. This session will explore key factors to be considered and the potential impact (financial and environmental) of each factor, opportunities and risks associated with placing renewable assets on old fossil sites as well as potential strategies to mitigate these potential risks.
