Flexible capacity is essential to provide balance and resilience to strained power grids, and the resources to meet this need, all while reducing reliance on fossil fuels, are located in our homes and businesses. With the proliferation of smart devices - from EV chargers to batteries to smart thermostats and more - there is an opportunity to unlock the full value of these devices by providing energy back to the grid in times of need, while also delivering increased monetary value to their owners through access to the energy market. This presentation explores the evolution of grid services from behavioral- and signal-based to a truly dynamic, market-driven system, the proliferation of smart devices, and the solutions the two present when integrated effectively to bolster grid flexibility and resiliency.
