Much attention has been given to the topic of battery recycling, while the notion of repurposing EV battery packs into stationary energy storage is still the subject of the occasional pilot project. Yet the world is hurtling to a future that includes millions of gently used electric vehicle battery packs that are still very healthy, and are often sitting in large warehouses. The presenter will address the current technical challenges impeding the widespread adoption of second life batteries in stationary energy storage, and present real-world deployments that have overcome these challenges, paving the way for the widespread adoption of second life as a replacement for the deployment of new batteries in stationary applications.
