To address the persistent fire hazards posed by lithium-ion and install energy storage in dense urban environments where fire safety is crucial, we need products that are safe for use indoors. Supply chains for lithium and cobalt also required are complicated by human rights issues and trade barriers. This session will explore the opportunity presented by zinc alkaline batteries now that they have been made rechargeable and are becoming a leading alternative for long-term residential and commercial energy storage and power backup, at a cost far below lithium-ion.
