Geography, cost, and the intermittency of renewables are three of the biggest challenges utilities face when trying to reduce their use of fossil fuels. The geography of a utility's territory is often vast; the broader the area, the more difficult it is to maintain high-tension power lines. A well-designed DERMS software platform can monitor and control distributed energy resources (DERs), to improve the overall reliability and efficiency of an electric distribution system (i.e., an electric grid). A DERMS can manage and integrate thousands of distributed resources using a simplified group of management, control, and monitoring UIs, both decreasing energy costs and increasing resiliency.
