The landscape of battery energy storage permitting processes is diverse and very location-dependent. As AHJs continue to learn about battery technology and codes and standards are attempting to keep up with evolving technology, permitting can be an arduous process that may cause unexpected disruptions to a project, or add unforeseen costs. In this session, HDR and FRA's battery storage and fire and life safety experts will present their lessons learned and direction on how to be prepared to permit a battery storage project from a fire safety standpoint, how battery vendors are adapting product designs to meet diverse requirements, and recommended practices for engagement with AHJs and first responders.
