Kevin Meagher and Steve Lopiano will kick off this workshop with a two-hour session introducing the essential concepts of microgrid planning and design, as well as the strategic thinking needed to establish a sound root-cause-analysis approach to problems. The range of topics will span from initial design to operation and monitoring utilizing a system digital twin.
Following, Dusan Brhlik will discuss the technical services and software used in the design, construction, and operation of dc microgrids. This one-hour session will explain and demonstrate the principal elements of a dc microgrid configurator and its use by engineers, integrators, and owners of dc microgrids. Dusan’s presentation will provide an overview of the residential microgrid built on the RE+ tradeshow floor.
Workshop participants will then take a special VIP pre-show tour of the live Grid-of-Grids demonstration on the tradeshow floor, where company representatives, including Emera Technologies, primary sponsor of the demonstration, will give insight into the details of the microgrids, including how it was designed, what equipment and technologies it includes, how it is interconnected with other microgrids, and how it functions under various operating and fault conditions. Participants will also view the live residential microgrid on the floor, powered by a solar array outside the convention space. Participating partners (ATX LED, CE+T, Cisco Systems, Direct Energy Partners, Duke Energy, Emera Technologies, Enteligent, Horizon, Iron Ridge, LG, Nextek Power, Systems, PomCube, Recify Solar, The Sun Company, and Trane) will be available during the show to answer questions.
As participants will be viewing the microgrid demonstration in advance of the show floor officially opening, all participants must wear closed toe shoes, as required by convention management. Participants will be escorted onto the floor to view the demonstration and will be required to leave immediately following.
