A19 - Cybersecurity Concerns of Large Penetrations of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs)

Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are evolving from static singular systems to fleets of assets and Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) that will be interconnected with the broader grid. This network evolution requires fundamental attributes commonplace with traditional power providers such as, security and resiliency, in order to realize true value propositions. This poster describes a next generation communications approach called Information Centric Networking, and how it applies to DER network architectures using the Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) framework. Additionally, we touch on what is required to start moving in the direction of ubiquitous DERs from an industry standards perspective.
