Distributed Energy Resources (DER’s) are a critical piece of a low carbon future. Energy efficiency, building electrification, and renewable energy strategies have created a ripe opportunity for Net Zero or Zero Net Energy (ZNE) buildings. Although many of the current ZNE projects highlighted in the marketplace are concentrated on the west coast, ZNE buildings can be realized in the more challenging environments of the “fly -over†states. This poster will utilize the first LEED-Zero building in the U.S. to define the unique challenges of the design and construction of ZNE buildings, regulatory environment, modeling/measuring/verifying ZNE buildings, and third-party ZNE certifications.
