Providing power to ride through outages caused by earthquakes, fires, or another disaster is the primary job of a microgrid. But a microgrid can provide many other benefits too including grid resilience, demand charge reduction, and ancillary services. Recently, the University of Washington (UW) assessed the Seattle City Light, Miller Community Center (MCC) Microgrid against four “Use Cases.†Each use case is enabled by unified controls of the PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
