Tim Merrigan began working in solar energy in 1978 and has been deeply engaged in renewable energy and energy efficiency ever since. Tim conducted solar energy research and was in technical management positions at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for over 18 years. Prior to joining NREL, Tim was a principal investigator at the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) for 20 years, doing research in solar thermal systems and building energy efficiency.
Before starting the consulting practice of Energy Information Services in July 2017, Tim led the industry and government team that started the Zero Energy Homes and Zero Energy Buildings initiatives in the early 2000’s. He also managed the NREL Solar Buildings program and the Solar Heating & Cooling program for DOE from 1999 to 2010.
Tim has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Central Florida as well as a B.S.M.E. from Columbia University and a B.A. from Rollins College in physics. Tim has taught at over 100 workshops on solar energy and building energy efficiency and has over 60 publications as an author or co-author.
