Technical Specialist

John is a technical adviser, independent engineer, and cost and risk management expert specializing in renewable energy, primarily PV solar and energy storage, wind power, biomass, and district energy facilities. Experience also includes conventional power and mining, with a focus on bring renewable power opportunities to mining companies around the globe.
John is currently a Director and Technical Specialist at BTY Group, an independent global consultancy providing infrastructure advisory services for established and emerging markets. John regularly advises lenders, asset owners, and buy and sell-side stakeholders, focusing on reviewing the technical risk associated with the project, confirming revenue projections, and assessing the ability of the project to meet contractual performance targets.
Prior to joining BTY, John was the Lead Consultant and Owner of JL Solar & Renewables, a small consulting firm specializing in technical due diligence of PV solar facilities on behalf of Lenders and Developers. Over the past 5-6 years JL Solar reviewed over 350 PV solar sites, primarily C&I rooftop portfolios and groundmount facilities up to 15MW. Previously, John was Director of Renewable Power Projects at Altus Group, and the Director of Risk Management for Global Power at SNC-Lavalin.
In these senior advisory roles, John led technical due diligence and review of asset investments totaling over $15 billion in Canada and the United States.
Key skills are risk management and capital project economics, and extensive experience in modeling of PV solar facilities with both PVSyst and Helioscope.
