Don Scipione, Ph.D, is President of Roll-A-Rack. He is an experimental elementary particle physicist, businessman and serial entrepreneur. He has won four Phase II Small Business Innovations Research grants, most recently from the Us. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office for the development of Roll-A-Rack, and has a forty-year history of commercializing technology innovations. For the last ten years his primary interest has been renewable energy.
At UC San Diego he managed the Piccioni elementary particle research group’s manufacturing operations and software development; and experimented at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory particle accelerators. Don has developed operations optimization technology for transportation, financial management, customer relationship management, healthcare staff scheduling, and education. He developed a world-wide distribution channel which spanned thirty countries. He has presented in regional, national and international workshops on education, workforce development, economic development, and how to service customers and market on the Internet; sponsored by the State of Ohio, The White House, and The U.S. Department of State.
Dr. Scipione is a leader in workforce and economic development. As chairman and long-time board member of MidTown Cleveland, an area economic development organization, he played a major role in transforming an abandoned part of the city of Cleveland into the city’s fastest-growing technology hub. His leadership of the Economic Development Committee of the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Workforce Investment Board, resulted in modernizing many policies including: training for occupations that are in demand, incumbent worker training, customized training, and on-the-job training. He has provided mentorship and first-time jobs for over 100 community college to Ph.D. students.
