Sishir Garemalla is an experienced business leader in the field of solar energy and financial services, with a track record of innovative and entrepreneurial approach to problem solving. Strong commercial acumen developed through initiating many ‘firsts’ in highly competitive, regulated and complex energy markets. Deeply networked across the value chain (OEMs, operators and financiers) and across customer segments (utility scale, C&I, residential).
Financing Expertise
• Debt: Ran India’s first dedicated rooftop solar lending company. Raised first of its kind co-lending facility of $3m for SME solar financing. Evaluated over 3GW of renewable financing at one of India’s largest renewable energy lenders, L&T Infrastructure Finance. Worked extensively with US and European development financing institutions (DFIs), impact investors, private equity players, domestic and international debt financiers for capital deployment in solar.
• Equity: Engaged with international investors for LP commitments to the tune of ~ $200m by building in-depth business thesis, financial modelling, joint field visits, customer interviews, scenario planning and negotiations.
Operational Expertise
• Pioneered residential and small business rooftop solar installation market in key urban centers across India. Introduced cutting-edge module and inverter technologies coupled with best in class after sales service.
• Evaluated project development in the Middle East (Bahrain, UAE), Sub Saharan Africa (Tanzania), Asia (Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines). Advised global solar companies for market entry and business development across these regions.
Solar energy, meshed with financing, data and storage, will be a mega trend in the years to come. Apart of the obvious economic benefits, solar helps in social and environmental development. I am excited to play my part in that transition through thought leadership and impactful work.
