Advanced Energy Management Alliance
Katherine Hamilton is Executive Director of the Advanced Energy Management Alliance, a trade association whose members include national distributed energy resource (“DERâ€) companies and advanced energy management service and technology providers, including demand response (“DRâ€) providers, as well as some of the nation’s largest demand response and distributed energy resources. AEMA members support the beneficial incorporation of distributed energy resources into wholesale markets for purposes of achieving electricity cost savings for consumers, contributing to system reliability, and ensuring balanced price formation. As an expert in DER policy, Hamilton has testified numerous times before Congress, statehouses, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Hamilton’s professional background includes a decade designing grids and managing large commercial customers at a utility; seven years leading energy and water efficiency programs at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; co-directing the American Bioenergy Association; identifying investments and managing policy at Good Energies, a private equity firm; and running the GridWise Alliance during which time she co-authored an IEEE paper on the future of demand response. Hamilton studied electrical engineering at Northern Virginia Community College and has degrees from Cornell University and the University of the Sorbonne. Hamilton is an internationally recognized thought leader, leading several councils of the World Economic Forum and currently serving as a Senior Executive on Clean Electrification.
