Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA)
As Director of Codes & Standards, Joe leads SEIA’s efforts in advocacy for development of reasonable and pragmatic codes & standards for design and installation of safe, reliable solar energy systems. In this capacity, he has authored and provided testimony as proponent of numerous SEIA code change proposals to improve national model codes, and has engaged in numerous speaking opportunities at Solar Power International and other industry and professional forums. He is staff liaison to the SEIA Codes & Standards Working Group and the Mounting System Manufacturers Committee. Prior to joining SEIA, Joe was Chair of the SEIA Codes & Standards Working Group since January 2011 -- near its inception. Joe is a licensed Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering – specializing in structural engineering – licensed in nine states. He has been dedicated to the solar industry since 2008. Joe is a voting member of the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) PV Systems Committee, and is co-author of two SEAOC Convention papers on wind loads on PV systems. Joe is a member of the ICC Renewable Energy Membership Advisory Council (REMAC), and the Energy Task Group for development of the 2018 ICC/ASHRAE 700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS). Joe’s early career includes seven years as a building department plan checker, and decades of working with building energy conservation codes and building science.
