Sarah Grey has a cutting-edge climate and Clean Air Act practice counseling clients in the fuels, energy, automobile, and manufacturing industries on a wide range of Environmental Protection Agency and California regulatory and compliance matters. She is an effective and agile advocate before regulatory bodies in rulemaking and enforcement defense settings with a notable grasp of strategic, big picture considerations, while adeptly managing teams of experts on nuanced, highly-technical air and climate matters. She is passionate about supporting her clients’ goals to facilitate a transition to a low-carbon future, and ensuring sound government policies further these collective societal aims. In addition to a range of climate-related work from ESG to CCS, Sarah has deep expertise on fuels regulatory, compliance, and litigation matters, including the federal Renewable Fuel Standard, California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard, other state and international low carbon fuel initiatives, and EPA’s fuels regulations.
Sarah has a breadth of experience on environmental transactional matters, including supporting multi-hundred million dollar real estate transactions for complex Brownfields development projects. She counseled a major technology and energy efficiency company on the environmental aspects of various corporate transactions that involved negotiation of complex environmental indemnity agreements and environmental due diligence for multi-facility transactions.
Her unique background includes serving as regulatory counsel for a large biofuels company, where she supported the environmental and permitting teams for 27 facilities and managed a range of policy matters. She clerked for the Chief Judge of the Eastern District of Virginia on one of the few federal Death Penalty Act cases taken to trial, and the only one involving Somali pirates’ hijacking of an American sailing vessel off the coast of Somalia.
