Description: Long-acting injectables (LAIs) have made a tremendous impact on clinical medicine through dozens of approved products. Furthermore, there is clearly a surge in LAI interest today as evidenced by the number of LAI products in development and the multitude of presentations and panel discussions on LAIs at conferences and webinars. This interest stems in part from LAI’s potential to make today’s new modalities a reality, such as immunotherapies, and to continue to leverage already proven outcomes of LAIs such as better patient compliance, improved efficacy, and making local drug delivery possible. This presentation will focus on LAIs that use bioabsorbable lactide/glycolide polymers (LG polymers). Formulation design factors, drug substance properties, drug dose, dosage form, and manufacturing processes of select LAI products with LG polymers will be discussed to highlight key concepts.
