In this transformative era of increasing commitment and united action to address global health, companies and research entities collaborate to deliver safe, effective, and affordable medicines. This work demonstrates the success of innovation through an ecosystem research approach for future pivotal pharmaceutical treatments using solubilization-enhancing formulation strategies and sustainable-footprint manufacturing. HME is used to manufacture drug-enabled anti-malarial formulations at high volume and low cost, serving those most at need, and expanding access to affordable medicine.

Learning Objectives:

1. The work aims to build an understanding of the further development of anti-malarial formulations containing amorphous solid dispersions of lumefantrine and artemether.
2. The work demonstrates the utility of Vertical hot melt extrusion (HME) as an invaluable technique to produce cost-effective medicines that overcome major therapeutic challenges such as poor aqueous solubility.
3. The work will build an understanding of the formulation development approach and preformulation optimization of excipients and additives in anti-malarial formulations containing amorphous solid dispersions of lumefantrine and artemether.
