The Oral Biopharmaceutics and Absorption Modeling (OBAM) and In Vitro Release and Dissolution Testing (IVRDT) communities jointly propose a career development panel discussion for graduate students and early-career professionals with biopharmaceutics experts in industry, academia and regulatory. This event aims to discuss career opportunities in the field of biopharmaceutics in drug development, along with general career development in the pharmaceutical field. The structure of the event will include a brief background of each panelist that includes description of their technical background, current role, number of years in their role, and most importantly, what career opportunities and decisions have benefited them and allowed them to succeed in their careers. The session moderator will have a list of questions that they can ask the panelists, e.g.:
- How did they decide industry vs academia?
- Why did they choose the field of biopharmaceutics and what would be the one thing they would like to highlight about career in this field?
- In the period of their early career, what helped them in their career growth? Any particular challenge that they would like to highlight?
- What additional things helped them as they continued to succeed in their career?
- What would they advise the audience about networking? Any examples how they strategized their networking?
- Any formative leadership experience that shaped them?
- How do they make time to focus on their growth and development?
- What would be the one coaching advice they would give to the audience?
Panelists addressing career development questions in their introduction will help set the tone for discussion with the audience. The event will include panelists both men and women and from academia, industry and regulatory to ensure a diverse panel. This will help maximize benefits to the audience as they listen to different perspectives.
