Dr. Devin J. Swiner is a senior scientist in Small Molecule Analytical Research and Development (SMARD) at Merck. She received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the Univeristy of Pittsburgh in 2016 before obtaining her PhD in 2021 from The Ohio State University under the mentorship of Dr. Abraham Badu-Tawiah. Her dissertation research was focused on developing a new ionization source for mass spectrometry using cellulose materials for applications in clinical diagnostics. Her current rolenis focused on preclinical drug product development where she is responsible for using a robust set of analytical methods to enable innovative and data-driven research. Outside of her scienitfic expertise, Dr. Swiner is an advocate for scientists of color. She’s been an active member of NOBCChE since undergrad and has served as Chapter President during her tenure at The Ohio State Univeristy. The impact that NOBCChE has made on her career inspired Dr. Swiner to seek out opportunities to bridge the connection between the organization and Merck. She has been working across various departments to design, drive, and implement strategies to increase the recruitment of Black scientists to the pharmaceutical industry, both nationally and within the Northeast region.
