Cynthia Chavez-Eng is a Senior Principal Scientist at Merck & Co, in the Regulated Bioanalytics group within the PPDM department. She has over 30 years of experience in Pharma, conducting LC-MS/MS analysis for quantitation of small molecules and peptides. Her role is to develop methods in support of non-clinical and clinical studies, and to identify and evaluate novel approaches and technologies to develop complex assays and solve problems in the laboratory. She received her M.S. in Chemistry at the University of Southern Illinois, Carbondale in 1991, and then worked for a year in a contract laboratory before joining Merck in 1992. She continued her education while working full-time, and received her Ph.D in Analytical Chemistry at Drexel University in 2002. She has over 50 peer-reviewed publications and 56 abstracts in the field of quantitative analysis using LC-MS/MS. Cynthia’s scientific interests include analysis of unique matrices, stabilization of unstable compounds, and high-throughput analysis in support of clinical trials.
