Dr. Bi-Dar (Peter) Wang is Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy (UMES SOP). Prior to joining UMES, he worked as a visiting research fellow at NICHD/NIH. During his training at NIH, Dr. Wang received a Fellows Award for Research Excellence (FARE) in 2006. After his training at NIH, he was appointed as a senior scientist, then an Assistant Research Professor (2010-2016) in the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology at the George Washington University Medical Center. Currently, Dr. Wang was recognized as SP-1 Faculty of the Year and Dean’s Award in 2018 at UMES.
Dr. Wang’s research work focuses on cancer genomics and cancer health disparities. He utilized approaches of molecular/cell biology, genomic, biochemistry, histology, pharmacology, high-throughput drug screen to study the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor aggressiveness and cancer drug resistance. He focused on the identification of molecular signatures, microRNA-mRNA pairings, aberrant splicing variations, and epigenetic profiles in aggressive prostate, colon, breast, and liver cancers. The ultimate goals of his research work are it develop potential precision diagnostic/prognostic biomarkers and novel therapeutic strategies for aggressive cancers. His research projects have been supported by funding from NCI, DoD, NIGMS, and the American Cancer Society.
