Guizhi (Julian) Zhu is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutics, and Center for Pharmaceutical Engineering and Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He is an NCATS KL2 Scholar (2018-2021) and an awardee of multiple grants from NIH (NIGMS R35, NIAID R01, NCI R01, NINDS R21), DoD BCRP, and American Cancer Society. He is an associate member of VCU Massey Cancer Center, and a member of VCU Institute for Structural Biology and Drug Discovery. He received BS in Biotechnology from Nankai University, China, PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Florida, followed by a postdoc training on drug delivery and bioimaging in the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) of NIH. His multidisciplinary research group (https://www.guizhizhu.org/) studies engineering and delivery technologies of nucleic acid immunotherapeutics and vaccines for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of cancer, infectious diseases, and autoimmune diseases. Over the past 10 years, has published about 90 peer-reviewed papers with over 9,000 citations. He is a co-founder and CSO of AmpedRNA Biosciences LLC, a startup company spun off from his lab that develops RNA therapeutics and vaccines.
