Dr. Zaveri is the Founder, President and Chief Scientific Officer of Astraea Therapeutics, a clinical-stage company she founded in 2009, whose mission is medication development for under-served CNS diseases (opioid and substance abuse disorders, non-addicting analgesics, chronic pain). She is a medicinal chemist by training, and an internationally recognized expert in the field of G-protein coupled receptor-targeted- and ion channel-targeted drug discovery and development for CNS medications. She has advanced pioneering discoveries from her laboratory at Astraea Therapeutics from first-in-class target validation and early discovery through to clinical development as treatments for smoking cessation and relapse, and for opioid use disorders. Before her entrepreneurial venture, Dr. Zaveri was Principal Investigator and Director of Drug Discovery at the Stanford Research Institute International in Menlo Park, CA, for 16 years. Dr. Zaveri has been an ardent volunteer and leader at AAPS on various committees and task forces, and Chair of the Drug Discovery and Development Interface (DDDI) section. She was elected to the AAPS Fellow status in 2014. Dr. Zaveri is a strong proponent for issues related to Career Development for Women in Pharmaceutical Sciences and has organized and given talks on this topic at the AAPS Annual meetings.
