Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute
Cambridge, Massachusetts
Joleen T. White, PhD, is Head of Bioassay Development and Operations at Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute (Gates MRI). She oversees bioassay staff responsible for development programs in global health, plus directly establishes and implements scientific strategy for prophylactic monoclonal antibodies. Within this broader mission, she supports patient-centric sampling innovation to expand clinical trial reach and future clinical implementation. The Gates MRI motto “Our bottom line: lives saved” resonates deeply for her, enabling her to pursue her passion of helping under-served patients in a full-time position.
Joleen earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Harvey Mudd College in 1997, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from The Scripps Research Institute in 2002. Prior to her position with Gates MRI, she worked across bioanalytical, biomarker, and immunogenicity methodology and interpretation as Director and Global Head of NBE DMPK Project Support at EMD Serono, Principal Scientist at Biogen, Group Leader at Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Senior Scientist at BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc.
Joleen is active in the international bioanalytical and immunogenicity community: chairing or moderating 10 conferences and sessions, representing employers on working groups for AAPS and the International IQ Consortium, and volunteering with PhUSE and CDISC for bioanalytical data initiatives.
