Associate Principal Scientist

Haichen Nie is working for Merck & Co. as an Associate Principal Scientist at Center for Materials Sciences and Engineering. He received his Ph.D. from the Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy at Purdue University. He has been in pharmaceutical industrial for over 7 years with broad research experiences in preclinical development, formulation and process development, material characterization and commercial manufacturing. He is specialized in solid-state formulation development, pharmaceutical salts disproportionation, amorphous solid dispersions, spray drying process optimization, and advanced physicochemical characterizations for both small molecule and biological drug products. Haichen has over 30 peer reviewed publications on pharmaceutical journals and invented several patents since 2016.
In 2022, Haichen becomes an adjunct assistant professor at Purdue University College of Pharmacy, and adjunct professor at Long Island University-Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He has mentored several Ph.D. students and Postdoc fellows in the field of pharmaceutical sciences; Haichen also serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of different pharmaceutical journals and has served as the chair of AAPS excipient community since 2021.
