Johannes Sake is a final year PhD candidate in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences located in Trinity College Dublin. His project is being carried out under the mentorship of Prof. Carsten Erhardt. Johannes completed his undergraduate degree in Pharmacy at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He acquired early experience in the pharmaceutical industry at Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel, Switzerland and in management consulting at EY-Parthenon in Munich, Germany.
Johannes’ research focuses on membrane transporters in the pulmonary epithelium and their influence on the disposition of inhaled drugs, with the aim of getting a better understanding of absorption and clearance mechanisms in the lung. In his studies, he employs a wide range of in vitro and ex vivo models and techniques, from CRISPR/Cas9 knockout models to precision-cut lung slices. This is carried out, to assess the interaction of transporter proteins with clinically approved drugs for inhalation. Johannes has published 1 review article in Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews and co-authored 7 research and review papers in various scientific journals.
