Olasubomi Akintola (PhD Candidate, Auburn University) received her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from Newcastle University, UK, in 2015 after which she worked in the genomics of infectious diseases in her home country, Nigeria before joining Dr. Alexei Kisselev’s lab as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Harrison School of Pharmacy in 2018 to undertake her Ph.D. in Pharmacology.
Her current research focuses on identifying the target of Bruton’s Tyrosine Kinase inhibitors in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer, a type of cancer that currently lacks targeted therapies and confers a poor prognosis. She is also interested in elucidating the mechanisms of action of small nucleolar RNAs, a type of non-coding RNA, in the response of multiple myeloma cells to proteasome inhibitor therapy.
