My research has been focused on development of novel delivery strategies for therapeutic small molecules, peptides, and proteins (polymeric and/or lipid nanoparticles, polymer &/or lipid-based micelles) for oral, topical, parenteral delivery; target-based drug delivery and physicochemical modification of active pharmaceutical ingredient.
My M.Tech research involved formulation and in vitro evaluation of chitosan reinforced alginate microcapsule by using ionotropic/external gelation technique. Along with that I also developed nanosuspension containing glyburide, prepared by high pressure homogenization (Top-down Technique) to achieve a better solubility and dissolution profile.
My doctoral research at Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, India was focused on the development of protein mediated targeted drug delivery. In particular, my studies focused on development of polymer-polymer and polymer-protein conjugate-based polyelectrolyte complex nanoparticle systems to enhance the efficiency and specificity of low potency anticancer agent, synthesis of target specific Protein-Antitubercular Drug conjugates using chemically diverse linkers and evaluation, design and synthesis of novel bioactive molecules and enzyme immobilization. My research works has been published in renowned international journals.
After Ph.D., I joined Dr. Abhijit Date’s nanomedicine research lab at the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP), University of Hawaii at Hilo, HI as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. My research focused on the physicochemical and chemical modification of hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs to improve their biopharmaceutical properties and oral bioavailability. My expertise is in preformulation, development of lipophilic salts of drugs (drug based ionic liquids; cocrystals and/or co-amorphous system), polycarboxylate based nanoparticles, polymer/lipid based micellar systems, self-nanoemulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS), nanosuspension and polymer-drug conjugate synthesis. Currently I am the part of the same research group, working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at R.K. Coit College of Pharmacy, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ.
