Description: TiO2 is a most used opacifiers in Film Coatings. Recently, European Food Safety Authority declared that Titanium dioxide, E171 (TiO2) could no longer be considered safe as a food additive. This ban causes significant formulation challenges for development and manufacturing scientists, which is likely to spill over into the pharmaceutical area too, hence an ideal time to enhance existing products. Latest innovations in TiO2 free film coating results in a better consumer experience. An overview of some of the challenges and novel solutions will be presented.
