When presented with a tooth with a poor or hopeless prognosis, what is the best course of action to take? If the patient is interested in pursuing replacement options, should an immediate implant be considered? Or should the tooth be extracted and ridge preservation be the treatment of choice? An immediate implant placement is a viable and successful strategy when implemented in the right cases. It can reduce treatment time, number of surgeries, cost, and provide patients with an efficient and comfortable treatment compared to conventional modalities. In some cases such as the anterior, it can result in superior esthetics by preventing excess tissue remodeling. However, there are other situations in which it might not be considered, such as maligned teeth, large infections, maxillary molars, and others.
This lecture will focus on identifying cases that can be treated with this innovative and effective approach. It will also provide a suggested workflow to help the general dentist, lab and surgeon team up to provide their patients with excellent outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
Identify cases that meet the criteria for immediate implant placement and, for non-eligible cases, consider the best alternative strategies.
Learn the treatment specifics, timelines, and expected outcomes of immediate implants and conventional methods.
Identify how to provisionalize a case while considering TRPD, Essix or immediate-load provisional. Review tissue molding techniques.
