An Indiana native, Jeff graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, earning a degree in accounting. His plans after graduation were to take over the implement dealership where he worked. An unfunded succession plan instead led to the close of the business, and an opportunity with Federated Insurance.
Jeff’s Federated career began in Valparaiso, Indiana, as a marketing representative in 1980.
He has held virtually all marketing management positions prior to his appointments as executive vice president — director of insurance operations, then chief operating officer, followed by president in May 2008. Jeff was named chief executive officer on January 1, 2009, and elected chairman of the board on December 1, 2012.
Through Jeff’s leadership, the mission of Federated Insurance was redefined in 2015, focusing solely on enhancing the success of our clients.
Jeff serves on the Minnesota Business Partnership board and is a past board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America®. He earned the prestigious honor of Star Tribune’s Top Workplaces in Minnesota leadership award for large companies in 2019.
