Massimo Antonio Padalino is Associate Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Padova. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1995, and he finished his specialty residency in cardiac surgery in 2000 in the same University. Above that, he has been a Research Fellow in Cardiovascular Pathology in 1996-1997 at the Cardiac Registry, Harvard Medical School, Boston,MA, USA, with Dr Richard Van Praagh. In 2000, he completed his USMLE certification, and he subsequently trained in congenital cardiac surgery as Clinical Fellow in USA (Mayo Clinic, Boston Children’s Hospital, Mott Children’s Hospital). He started working as staff pediatric and congenital cardiac surgeon in 2004, at he University of Padova. He completed his PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences in 2008 at the same University, where he subsequently achieved 2 Masters (Cardiovascular Pathology , Paediatric Cardiology). He is associate professor of cardiac surgery since 2019. He is a senior congenital cardiac surgeon, and member of EACTS, AEPC, ECHSA, SICP, SICCH, ESC working groups. He has more than 150 papers in international peer reviewed journals, several chapters in books, monographies, and a Handbook of paediatric Cardiac surgery. His research interests are congenital heart disease, Fontan circulation, end stage heart failure in children and innovative treatments, AAOCA, VAD and ECMO, decellularized heart valves. He was local PI in 2 EU funded european projects (ESPOIR-FP7/2007-2013; ARISE-Horizon 2020), for use of decellularized homografts in ongenital heart disease. He is currently leading the EURO-AAOCA multicenter prospective study and the European Fontan Registry. Since 2020 he is eligible as full professor in cardiac surgery. His current H index is 26. He has been involved in humanitarian experiences in Africa and middle-east; other interest are contemporary architecture and art, traveling, cuisine and sports.
