Nancy Jaworksi currrently serves as the Pediatric Heart Transplant and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) APRN and VAD Coordinator at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Led the VAD committee and agenda of VAD program regarding quality improvement activities, clinical guideline creation and programmatic morbidity and mortality review.
Led collaborative efforts with supply chain around reducing inventory of VAD surgical supplies while maintaining adequate emergency VAD supplies.
This included developing processes to have ready access to appropriate VAD supplies for inpatient staff as well as patient and family access upon discharge.
Instigated formalized process for providing VAD education and compentencies for RN staff with goal of developing a similar process for APRN/MD/trainees.
Established monthly VAD committee meetings with report structure.
Developed inventory management system and guideline around equipment management. This new process of inventory management is to date responsible for saving the health care system over $100,000 in expired surgical equipment.
Rebuilt and enhanced admission, transfer and discharge process for VAD patients. Saving the healthcare system nearly $600,000 in the first year of VAD coordinator role.
Participated in Harmonization guideline development with the Action Learning Network, specifically driveline infection, discharge and anemia (transfusion reduction) work.
Spearheaded Harmonized guideline regarding VAD nutrition.
Created evidence based guidelines for every aspect of VAD program from evaluation to withdrawal of life sustaining therapies.
Currently working with rehab collegues to build on Early Mobility work within intensive care units to standardize and improve Early Mobility for pediatric patients with all VAD types.
