Dr. Munoz Pareja was born, raised, and partially educated in Colombia at Universidad del Norte. She completed her pediatric residency training at Nicklaus Children's Hospital and her pediatric critical care fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital.
Dr. Munoz's research focuses on utilizing brain biomarkers to help diagnose and prognosticate brain injury response and repair after different neurological insults in the ICU. In addition, she is very passionate about medical education and simulation and holds an advanced simulation instructor certificate from the Center for Medical Simulation. Her primary focus is on utilizing simulation as a novel approach to building sustainability in outreach settings. She has been the recipient of several educational awards throughout her career. Dr. Munoz is the associate program director of the pediatric critical care fellowship at the University of Miami. Furthermore, Dr. Munoz has a strong interest in providing high-quality healthcare to underserved populations and is currently an active member of several international organizations that focus on bringing the best medical and surgical care to children across the globe.
