Melissa B. Jones, MSN, CPNP-AC is a nurse practitioner and Director of the Neurocardiac Critical Care Program in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Hospital in Washington DC. She is currently President of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society.
Melissa is the lead editor for the recently published Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Handbook 2nd Edition and PCICS Nurse Cullriculum 1st Edition. As a member of the education committee, she served as an editor of the PCICS Nursing Guidelines, Melissa co-chaired the 13th Annual International Meeting in Washington DC in 2017 and the 14th Annual International Meeting in Miami in December 2018.
As Director of the Neurocardiac Critical Care Program at Children’s National, Melissa leads an integrated, multidisciplinary group of clinicians focused on eliminating secondary brain injury, optimizing brain development, and promoting healthy family bonding in the CICU. Her clinical interest is in identifying and addressing CICU specific modifiable risks to long term neurodevelopmental outcomes.
