PCICS Bio: Meena LaRonde
Meena LaRonde, MSN, RN, CCRN has spent the last 26 years working in the Cardiovascular Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, primarily in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). After several years as a Staff Nurse, Meena received her MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner and began seeing patients in the outpatient cardiology setting. She returned to the CICU and collaborated with a physician and NP to pilot and develop the role of the NP in that clinical setting. Meena realized that her true calling was at the bedside caring for patients and families and returned to staff nursing in 2011. She is currently a charge nurse and Staff Nurse III, involved in several unit-based and hospital-wide initiatives. Meena is co-chair of the Practice, Quality and Outcomes Council within the hospital-wide Professional Governance Council and a member of the hospital Policy and Procedure Review Council.
Meena graduated from the Nursing Science Fellowship program at Boston Children’s Hospital in 2020. This two-year forum allowed her to build on her commitment to neurodevelopmental care with infants in the CICU. For her fellowship project, she developed a survey by collaborating with expert members of the Consortium of Congenital Cardiac Care Measurement of Nursing Practice (C4-MNP) that is the first of its kind in assessing the current state of nursing practice with Individualized Family-Centered Developmental Care (IFDC) in infants in the CICU setting. After disseminating the results to C4-MNP, Meena developed a poster for Boston Children’s Hospital Nurses’ Week that won recognition as the best QI poster for 2020. Her poster was presented at PCICS 2020. Meena's manuscript, Individualized Family-Centered Developmental Care for Infants With Congenital Heart Disease in the Intensive Care Unit, was published in the January 2022 edition of the American Journal of Critical Care Nursing.
