Anna C. Fisk PhD RN CCRN-K, Boston Children’s Hospital, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. As the clinical coordinator, Dr. Fisk is a member of the leadership team for the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU), a 31-bed unit for the care of patient with congenital and acquired heart disease. Dr. Fisk has 30 years of pediatric cardiac intensive care nursing experience with an interest in both education and research. She has presented locally, nationally, and internationally both didactic presentations and independent research. She serves as a member of Boston Children’s nursing scientific review committee and co-chairs the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society’s scientific review committee. Dr. Fisk also co-chairs the Heart Center Quality Committee. Her interest in research began after participating as a research nurse for the multi-site NIH-funded research study Trial of Euglycemia in Cardiac Surgery (TECS)/Safe Pediatric Euglycemia after Cardiac Surgery (SPECS). Dr. Fisk’s research interest is the care of patients with congenital and acquired heart disease, particularity in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit, with the objective to improve outcomes for patients and their families. Her studies examined the factors associated with increased laboratory use in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit and the parent perception of their role in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit. She received her PhD in Nursing Research at Medical University of South Carolina. Her doctoral research focused on adverse events, specifically cardiac arrest, that occurred during endotracheal suctioning in the pediatric patient following cardiac surgery.
