Katarina is an emergency management program manager at the office of the CAO with the Regional Municipality of York since late 2021. In the four years prior Katarina was working with York Region Public Health, initially as a Health Emergency Planning Specialist, but since January 2020 as the lead for the advanced planning research and recovery team in the response to COVID-19 before being appointed Chief of COVID-19 Vaccine Operations in Dec 2020.
Before joining York Region Katarina participated in several humanitarian missions for various international NGOs. Most notably, Katarina spent several months working as a clinic manager for an outpatient clinic in the city of Leogane, Haiti, following the devastating 2010 earthquake. Katarina has a Bachelor degree in Nursing Science and was working as a registered adult Cardiac Critical Care nurse at Malmo University Hospital prior to progressing her career towards the field of Emergency Management. Katarina hold three Master Degreeās, in the fields of Science with a Major in Public Health from Mid Sweden University, in Emergency and Disaster Management from Tel-Aviv University and in Risk, Decision and Policy Analysis from University of Gavle, Sweden.
