Paediatric Critical Care Physician

Asma Salloo is a paediatric intensivist currently working at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town. The ICU at Red Cross admits paediatric critically ill patients as well as paediatric cardiac patients She previously worked at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto, Johannesburg, where she worked in the Paediatric ICU for almost 10 years.
She obtained her medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and has completed a Fellowship in Paediatrics as well as a Certificate in Paediatric Critical Care from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. She completed a fellowship in ECMO / ECLS (Extra-Corporeal Life Support) at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
In addition to clinical work, Asma has a keen interest in medical education and is an instructor on the APLS (Advanced Paediatric Life Support) and Paediatric BASIC ICU (Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care) courses. She is also passionate about improving general medical and critical care for all children.
She has a special interest in humanitarian aid, and has been on a number of national and international relief missions as part of Gift of the Givers medical team, a local NGO involved in disaster relief
