Assistant Professor, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and Cardiology
Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine
Dr Kriti Puri, MBBS is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and a pediatric cardiac intensivist and pediatric cardiologist at Texas Children's Hospital. She completed her pediatric residency training at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and fellowship training in both cardiology and critical care at Texas Children's Hospital, prior to joining the team. She has a special interest in advanced pediatric heart failure and mechanical circulatory support, including clinical outcomes, hematologic and coagulation concerns, and nutrition. She led the first and largest study demonstrating the association of iron deficiency with adverse clinical outcomes in children with systolic heart failure, and is now investigating the efficacy of various iron replacement therapies in this population and their impact on clinical outcomes. In light of the integral role of iron in oxidative phosphorylation and aerobic metabolism and the nutritional and physiologic features predisposing infants with congenital heart disease to early development of iron deficiency, she is seeking to investigate the incidence and characteristics of iron deficiency in this population as well as its association with clinical outcomes. This study was supported by the Texas Children's Hospital Heart Center Innovation Award. Dr Puri was the Editorial Fellow for "Pediatrics" for 2019-20, and is the current Editorial Fellow for "Pediatrics in Review".
