Dr. Carrillo obtained his M.D. from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in Bogotá-Colombia. Completed his OBGYN residency at Rochester General Hospital (Rochester, NY). After this completed a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS) through the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. This Fellowship had an emphasis in chronic pelvic pain (CPP). After this he joined the University of Rochester as Assistant Professor and provided care to patients suffering from CPP conditions at their Center of Chronic Pelvic Pain and Vulvar Disorders. He subsequently completed a Dean’s Teaching Fellowship, a 2-year training program on adult learning and medical education.
Since 2017 he has been part of the Orlando VA Healthcare System (as a CPP specialist and MIGS), is Associate Professor of OBGYN for the University of Central Florida, serves as faculty for the Orlando VA fellowship in MIGS and is the Site Director for the UCF/HCA OBGYN Residency Program. He is completing his second year of a Master’s for the Health Professions Education with the University of Maastricht (The Netherlands).
Dr Carrillo is the 2022-2023 Treasurer for the International Pelvic Pain Society (IPPS) and serves as one of the Executive Board members, also is the Scientific Program Director for the 2022 Annual Scientific Meeting and for the past 4 years has been the Co-Director for the IPPS Clinical Foundations Course.
His expertise is in chronic pelvic pain and associated conditions, minimally invasive gynecologic procedures, patient education and health professions education.
