Jackie Rowles, DNP, MBA, MA, CRNA, ANP-BC, NSPM-C, FNAP, FAANA, FAAN is an Associate Professor of Professional Practice and Director of the Advanced Pain Management Fellowship at Texas Christian University. She was instrumental in the development of CRNA pain education, practice, and certification. Dr. Rowles founded the first CRNA interventional pain management cadaver course in 2005 and has been intimately involved in the development and advancement of CRNA pain practice from local workshops to the AANA Advanced Pain Management Seminars to University-based specialty education and progression to Fellowship status. She was an item writer for the CRNA Nonsurgical Pain Management certification exam and co-authored development of Nonsurgical Pain Management Core Modules required for certification recredentialing.
Serving as an American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) spokesperson for pain management, Dr. Rowles was featured and quoted in articles printed in the NY Times, The Wall Street Journal, and USA Today. She has provided expert testimony before the FDA, state boards of nursing and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial pain management hearings. Dr. Rowles was selected to serve on the US government’s 2014 NIH/HHS National Pain Strategy team. Further, she was an invited speaker in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's 2016 Opioid Education webinar series and the 2019 keynote speaker for Emory University’s “Eyes on the Opioid Crisis” seminar.
A former AANA President, and current International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists President, Rowles has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors: the 2005 AANA Alice Magaw Outstanding Clinical Practitioner Award, 2012 AANA Agatha Hodgins Award for Outstanding Accomplishment, and the 2018 International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists Hermi Lohnert Award for Outstanding Global Leadership. She has been inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology and the American Academy of Nursing.
